"Toys for Tots" needs our help!
I realize it's a tough time of year financially for us all, as well as the fact that we still find ourselves amidst a struggling economy...
However, the Toys for Tots Foundation is far behind on collections in the Atlanta area this year. If you are able to contribute a new, unwrapped gift (1 or more:) for a small child, someone less fortunate will be most grateful this holiday season. It simply breaks my heart to think of any child going without something to open Christmas morning.
Drop new toys in the boxes provided in the Chorus Room before the last bell rings on Thursday, 12/22. I will be taking those we collect to a donation site at Toys 'R Us this Thursday following final exams.

All-State Chorus Participants- INFO NEEDED ASAP!
Remember All-State Chorus Students/Parents:
Nick Andrist, Alexsandra Holly, Monica Kraeger, Camille Mapua, Yash Mehta, Gianna Romero... The $15 All-State Acceptance Fee (made payable to Wheeler Choral Boosters) is due no later than TOMORROW Thursday, 11/10!
Parents of these students, please note that since this event will be held within 5 weeks of my due date, it is very unlikely that my doctor will allow me to travel to Savannah. Therefore, parental/chaperon supervision will be an absolute requirement this year. As always, I appreciate your support and your help. Please take a brief moment to answer the below and reply to me by email (elizabeth1.wilson@cobbk12.org) by tomorrow, 11/10, to let me know your preference:
a) Yes or No: I will serve as a chaperon/driver for the event Feb. 23-25.
b) Yes or No: I would like to have a room reserved for me and my participating student in a historic-area hotel block, located at the Inn at Ellis Square for a rate of $124/night.
Thanks!!!

Chaperons still needed for GMEA District 12 Honor Chorus
Your help is needed (and appreciated, as always)! This is a final plea for assistance...
Please email me directly at elizabeth1.wilson@cobbk12.org if you are able to assist next Monday and/or Tuesday as a chaperon for our participating Wheeler Chorus students in the GMEA District 12 Honor Chorus event. Schedule is below. I will be in attendance on both days, but may be pulled away for some "director" duties, so it would be quite helpful to have at least one other adult each day for our students' safety and security. Families will be providing their own transportation to the locations both Monday and Tuesday, so this volunteer job is a really easy one. Let me know if you can help, and thanks!
Schedule:
- Monday, November 7th, Sectional rehearsal, 5:15-8:30pm, Kennesaw Mountain HS.
Kennesaw Mountain High School,1898 Kennesaw Due West Road, Kennesaw, GA 30152 - Tuesday, November 8th, Rehearsal, 8:00am-5:00pm, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.
Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Rd, Marietta, GA 30068 - Tuesday, November 8th, Concert, 7:30pm, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.

GMEA District 12 Honor Chorus MP3 files
- Go to charmsoffice.com
- Under the ENTER tab, go to the STUDENT section - you will not be able to get in as a TEACHER or HELPER
- The STUDENT area asks for a school code - not a user name and password
- Enter school code... harrisonchorus
- That takes you to our public page - right there under where it has a place to enter a password, look for the button that says HANDOUTS & FILES and click
- Then click the folder called DIST 12 HONOR CHORUS
- And you will see all of the MP3 practice tracks labeled by song and voice part and should be able to download from there
Please let me know if that still doesn't work for you and I will figure out another way to send you the files. Thanks, and sorry for any confusion or trouble with this!

GMEA District 12 Honor Chorus Pertinent Info
Congratulations!
You have will be participating in the Georgia Music Educators Association’s District 12 Honor Chorus. This is a great honor as only about 150 singers from across our district will be chosen to perform. We will have just one mixed choir this year. You should have recently received your music for the performance; you will need to work on this on your own or with your teacher to become familiar with your parts prior to the first rehearsal. You will have one evening of sectional rehearsals and the rest of the rehearsal process will take place with your conductor for this year’s event: Dr. David Morrow from Morehouse College. This year, our event takes place on Tuesday, November 8th, which is the Election Day Teacher Work Day. So while it is an all day event of a school day, you will not have to miss any school to attend. You will perform a concert for the public at the end of the event. We are combining our concert with the Middle School Honor Chorus, so you will get to hear each other sing, and will perform one combined piece (Danza!) all together at the end of the concert. Feel free to ask your director if you have any questions about the event itself.
Schedule:
Monday, November 7th, Sectional rehearsal, 5:15-8:30pm, Kennesaw Mountain HS, no dinner is included.
Kennesaw Mountain high school
1898 Kennesaw Due West Road
Kennesaw, GA 30152
Tuesday, November 8th, Rehearsal 8:00am-5:00pm, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, lunch and dinner will be served, the cost for your meals is included in your registration fee.
Johnson Ferry Baptist Church
955 Johnson Ferry Rd
Marietta, GA 30068
Tuesday, November 8th, Concert 7:30pm, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, students will need to bring concert attire in the morning (don’t forget shoes, socks, ties, etc) and be sure everything is labeled with your name.
Rules:
All singers must be present at all rehearsals for the complete rehearsal time in order to participate in the performance.
Please allow ample time to travel to rehearsals and plan to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time so you can get checked in and find your seat and rehearsals can actually begin right on time. Tardiness to rehearsals will be dealt with on an individual basis by the coordinators, but please keep in mind that the attendance policy clearly states that all singers must be present for complete rehearsals meaning they can not arrive late or leave early.
We have very limited rehearsal time and will have a great deal of work to accomplish. Please be attentive and respect your peers and leaders during the rehearsal time. Organizers reserve the right to remove a student from the event if their rehearsal behavior is in any way disruptive or unacceptable, or if a singer is unable to handle the musical demands of the event. Students removed from Honor Chorus will not receive a refund.
Students are expected to follow school dress code for all GMEA events.
Each student must have with them at each rehearsal their original scores, a black concert folder and a pencil. No gum, food, candy or drinks other than water will be allowed in rehearsal. No cell phones will be allowed in rehearsal. Student MUST turn them off – not to vibrate, but off. Teachers reserve the right to take cell phones from individual students and store them in a safe place if they become a problem.
Students may choose to wear either their school chorus formal uniform or concert black. Concert black means head to toe black including either a black skirt or black pants and a black school dress code appropriate top or black button down shirt. Please discuss your plans with your director to be sure that everyone from your school is dressed the same.
Event Cost:
Each singer will pay a $30 participation fee (already turned in)! Included in the $30 fee are lunch and dinner during Tuesday’s rehearsal, the cost of your sheet music for the event, recording costs for your rehearsal tracks, venue costs, the fee for our clinician, accompanist and instrumentalists charges, concert recording expenses [the registration fee does not include an individual copy of the recording], printing costs and much more.
We will have the concert professionally recorded, but we will not purchase a copy of the recording for each student and director. Concert CD’s can be ordered directly from Sound Mill Recording during the event. We will not provide dinner during the Monday night rehearsal. You may eat before or after rehearsal or bring a snack you can have during break time.

Fundraisers and Finances
The Car Wash is next Saturday, 9/17, from 11am-2pm at Zaxby's. This is a general fund fundraiser. PARENTAL SUPERVISION AND ASSISTANCE IS GREATLY NEEDED! Parents, please email Wheeler Choral Booster President, Mr. Rick Brady, at bradyrick@yahoo.com asap if you are available to assist. Students, please bring in supplies on Thursday and Friday to school. Chorus Student Officers, must contribute supplies and must attend!
The Lollipop Fundraiser originally scheduled for the coming week has been postponed due to issues with collecting funds at the present time. We will revisit this fundraiser for the end of this month and into October when not nearly as much money is needed for Uniforms, All-State, etc etc. It just does not seem wise to try to collect an additional $60 from interested students when the above fees are still delinquent in many cases. Note: a student who is unable to provide the funds for his/her chorus uniform must participate in the lollipop fundraiser and sell at least one bag; all of that individual's proceeds will be directed back to the Choral Boosters General Fund (rather than the individual student account, as is the case for any other participating students) in order to offset the loss of funds for purchasing that child's uniform.

Have a great long weekend, and see ya Tuesday!

GMEA All-State Chorus Round 1 Auditions
A new requirement has been added to the Bel Voce curriculum for the 2011-12 school year. Because each member in the advanced choir at Wheeler is a capable, individual singer, and in order to better prepare these students for future auditions/interviews (in music/life), all Bel Voce members will be required to participate in Round 1 GMEA All-State Chorus Auditions. Chorale and Spirito members are encouraged to audition as well, but are not required to do so. There is a $25 fee for this due at the MANDATORY Wheeler Choral Booster Kick-Off Meeting on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, in the WHS Auditorium. Details and audition requirements can be accessed at:
